F.A.Q.

1. What is the Pisgah Stage Race? This race is modeled after the BC Bike Race, Cape Epic and La Ruta. Over five days, elite athletes as well as dirt cycling enthusiasts will push themselves like they have never done before. There will be rest stops each day with food, water, mechanical and medical assistance. You may also shuttle items. This is not an adventure survival event!

2. What exactly is the breakdown each day?
Day 1: White Squirrel Loop: 39 miles. 6,200' of elevation gain
Day 2: Land of Waterfalls Loop: 43 miles. 7,300' of elevation gain
Day 3: Carl Schenck Loop: 25 miles. 3,200' of elevation gain
Day 4: Promised Land Loop: 39 miles. 8,000' of elevation gain
Day 5: Transylvania Loop: 42 miles. 6,400' of elevation gain

Over half the routes are tight single track!

3. Do I need transportation to each stage? Stage 1, 4 and 5 start and end at the same place which is within 1.5 miles of most of the lodging accommodations. (A shuttle system is provided for the Stage 2 Start at Kuykendall Campground.) Stage 3 will start and end from the Wash Creek Campground so you will need to get out there. We encourage you to come in town, check into your campsite or hotel room and start riding! Park the car and use the new town pathway to get around.

4. What is included with my entry fee? Fully staffed aid stations with a shuttle system for your personal goods, mechanical and medical assistance. Five world class Pisgah routes fully marked. Bike wash. Beer and Entertainment every night. Food on the opening and final days. Top 3 to All Categories. $3,500 in cash and tons of prizes that we are adding to weekly. Opening ceremony on Monday Night.

5. Do I need a racing license and what is my racing age? No you will not need a USA cycling license to race this event. Your racing age is your age on 12/31/12.

6. How do team categories work? All teams are combined as one category (coed, men, women = all the same). There are two team categories: Duo Team (2 person) and RelayTeam (2-5 person). For the Duo Team category, riders race together each day and must cross the finish line within 5 minutes of one another. If there is more than 5 minutes between finishing times, then teams will be given a 1 hour penalty. This rule is only in effect at the finish line. You do not have to be together at rest stops or on the ride. For the Relay Team category, only one person rides per day.

7. Do stage race wins receive prize money and leader's jerseys in all categories? No. Leader's jerseys are only given out to the Pro/Elite categories.

8. What are the start times for the event? Stages 1, 4 & 5 will start at 9AM. Stage 2 will start at 10AM. Stage 3 will start at 11AM. Riders must be ready for shuttle departure on Wednesday at 9 AM.

10. What is the cancellation policy?

11. How will the course be marked? Check out the Course Markings page.

12. What is the best airport to fly in to? We would recommend flying in to the Asheville Regional Airport. It is a straight 25 minute shoot down Hwy 280 from the airport to the start/finish and all lodging for the event in Brevard, NC.

13. Are there cutoff times? Yes we will have cutoff times for the stages. Pros are expected to finish each day in 2-3 hours. Most people finish in 4-5 hours. Exact cutoff times listed on each Stage Map page.

14. Do I have to drop out of the race if I can't finish a stage? No. You can still compete in the race if for some reason you cannot finish a stage.
