The Bracken Mountain Super D
Sunday, October 6, 2013
“Super-D” defines mountain biking. It’s the perfect mix of downhill and cross country racing packaged together into one. Although Super-D is all about the downhill, minor uphill or flat sections are common and you will experience some of that on Bracken Mountain. The course is challenging, yet not over the top technical, with slow and high-speed sections that all come together to test riders of varying abilities and fitness. Super-D rewards the best all-around bike rider. It is a balance of bike skills, fitness and strategy. You don’t need a special bike to do well in the race - countless bikes will work.
Blue Ridge Adventures brings their professional touch to downhill style racing. Course designer and builder, Todd Branham, is a Super D National Series Champion, so he knows a thing or two about what a proper Super D course should entail. He has laid out a real beauty on Bracken Mountain Trail, and we've ponied up for a professional chip timing system, so get ready to shred! This 5.3 mile downhill will have you ripping flow trail for over 20 minutes!
